Although China is a major manufacturing country in the world, spiral bevel gears, the core component of the aerospace, marine and automotive industries, have historically relied on imports or must be manufactured from foreign equipment. Recently, China’s first self-constructed spiral bevel gear digital production line was completed and put into operation in Changsha City, Hunan Province, which not only filled China’s gap in this field, but also made China the third self-constructed spiral cone after the United States and Germany. The country of gear digital production lines.

China's research on spiral bevel gear technology can be traced back to the 1970s when some developed countries imposed a strict technical blockade on China. Professor Yan Zhida of Nankai University used the relative differential method to derive the inductive curvature formula of the conjugate surface, which laid the theoretical foundation for the digital production of spiral bevel gears in China. "China has spent almost two generations to overcome the digital production technology of spiral bevel gears." Zeng Wei, a professor at the Central South University and a doctoral tutor who has been engaged in spiral bevel gear research for more than 30 years, is a witness to this history.

In order to overcome the digital production technology of spiral bevel gears, Zeng Yi was the academic leader. Central South University, Changsha Science and Technology Venture Capital Co., Ltd. and Hunan Chuangyuan Group established Hunan Zhongda Chuangyuan CNC Equipment Co., Ltd. according to the market-oriented model. The first phase of investment is 80 million yuan, relying on three doctoral programs such as "Mechanical Design and Theory" of Central South University and the "Mechanical Engineering" postdoctoral research station. It has made major breakthroughs in gear design, manufacturing, analysis, testing and simulation.

Experts from the national gear manufacturing and R&D departments have expressed their sincere admiration when examining the digital system in the “Zhongda Chuangyuan” workshop. "Processing spiral gears, equipment must be able to get out of the precise spiral trajectory. Only in this regard is the real manufacturing high-tech," said an expert from a large domestic automobile industry group. In the computer-controlled computer room, Professor Zeng Wei told reporters that the core competitiveness of this production line established through global procurement is to break through the technological monopoly of the United States and Germany, and use digital control software to digitally integrate complex production systems. It is a major advancement in the digital precision machining of Chinese gears.

Wu Bolin, Director General of China Machine Tool Industry Association and Wang Shengtang, Vice President and Secretary General of China Gear Professional Association, agreed that this new production line broke the long-term monopoly of Western developed countries in this field and created a high-end gear for China. A new era of equipment industry development.

A breakthrough in technology has also brought lucrative returns to investors and developers. It is understood that this alternative imported equipment, although the price of up to more than 4 million yuan, but compared with the price of imported equipment more than 10 million yuan / Taiwan, is very attractive to the industry. An expert told reporters that if the unpolished gear is priced at 800 yuan/only, after using this kind of numerical control equipment, it can be upgraded to 1,500 yuan/only. “The spiral bevel gear digital production line is doing the most profitable technology business.”
