Oerlikon Balzers has introduced a new line of low temperature PVD coatings for molds and components - BALINIT ARCTIC.
Oerlikon Balzers, the world's leading supplier of PVD coatings, has introduced a new line of low temperature PVD coatings for molds and components - BALINIT ARCTIC. By using an innovative arc process, the coating can be deposited at a temperature of 200 ° C, which is much lower than the standard PVD coating at 400-500 ° C, which makes cold steel, plastic processing die steel (Normally tempered at 200 ° C) and copper alloy surface coating is possible.
The BALINIT ARCTIC PVD coating has no performance loss compared to coatings deposited at higher temperatures. Since the deposition temperature is low, the mold material having a low tempering critical temperature value is coated without loss of performance such as distortion, hardness, or corrosion resistance.
The BALINIT ARCTIC coating range is available in three grades: 1BALINIT® A ARCTIC (TiN): a surface hardness of 2300 HV and a coefficient of friction of 0.4 with steel; helps prevent resin deposit formation, improves wear resistance and makes the surface easy to clean. 2BALINIT® D ARCTIC (CrN): Surface hardness of 1750 HV, with a coefficient of friction of 0.5 with steel; suitable for plastic coating molds that produce chlorine, fluorine or other aggressive volatile gases during processing. 3BALINIT® FUTURA NANO ARCTIC (TiAlN): is a nano-coating with a surface hardness of 3300 HV and a coefficient of friction with steel of 0.5; it is ideal for plastic injection molds and engineering plastic molds with structured surfaces.
