Ginkgo bonsai is currently on hold. When caring for a Ginkgo biloba, it's best to place it in an area with limited sunlight and good air circulation, but where the environment remains slightly moist. During winter, avoid direct exposure to cold winds, and consider providing some shade if temperatures are too low. Ginkgo trees are generally cold-resistant and can survive outdoors in milder climates, though it's advisable to bury the pot in the ground for extra protection during harsher winters.

Watering is essential for maintaining the health of your Ginkgo bonsai. The soil should be kept consistently moist, but never soggy. In winter, when the temperature is higher, the leaves may lose moisture more quickly, so you should water it regularly but not excessively. In autumn, reduce watering as the tree enters its dormant phase.

Fertilizing your Ginkgo bonsai helps promote healthy growth. Apply a base fertilizer every winter using organic materials such as decomposed bean cake or well-rotted manure. During spring and summer, when the tree is actively growing, you can use stronger fertilizers like thick cake fertilizer or diluted human urine to encourage vigorous leaf and branch development, keeping the foliage vibrant and green.

Repotting should be done every two years, ideally just before or after the spring equinox. This is a great time to check the roots, trim any overgrown sections, and replace about one-third to half of the old soil. Adding a layer of base fertilizer at the bottom of the new pot will help support the tree’s continued growth.

Ginkgo biloba is known for its slow growth and long lifespan. It is also highly resistant to pollution and toxic gases, making it a resilient choice for bonsai. However, it is important to monitor the soil moisture levels carefully. Overwatering can lead to root rot, especially in older plants. Ensure proper drainage and avoid keeping the soil too wet to prevent this issue.
