High-quality brand power tools are known for their long lifespan, and with proper maintenance, they don’t require excessive effort. One of the key things to watch out for is the carbon brush. If the brush wears out or breaks, it can cause damage to the rotor. For example, if a new tool is used for more than 8 hours daily, you may need to replace the brush once a month. It's important to use high-quality brushes, as low-quality ones can shorten the motor’s life. Just like butter has different grades, so do brushes—preferably green-grade brushes.
Tools such as electric drills, marble cutters, and angle grinders mainly require attention to the carbon brushes. These tools aren't typically damaged by lack of oil but rather by overuse. For instance, if the bearing breaks or there's unusual noise, continuing to use the tool can lead to further damage.
The most critical tools to pay attention to are electric hammers and electric chisels. Electric hammers require regular oiling, while electric chisels need lubrication. The quality of the oil matters a lot. High-quality oil can last up to six months without needing a refill. If you're using regular oil, it's best to add it once a month or every two months. Don’t overdo it—too much oil can cause leaks.
To check the oil level, remove the dry bar and add about two caps of oil from a mineral water bottle. Then place the hammer head on the ground for around 30 seconds to let the oil circulate. For electric shovels, oil is usually added through the motor during operation. The recommended ratio is 3 parts oil to 1 part butter. You can even add oil in dusty environments, as long as you ensure that the oil doesn’t leak into the motor. As long as the machine is placed upright, oil will only leak from the cylinder and not into the motor.
It’s also advisable to add oil to the gearbox every three months. Avoid adding too much at once, as the system doesn’t hold a large amount of oil, and excess oil can increase the risk of leakage.
