On March 19, during the opening day of the 28th Shenzhen Furniture Exhibition, Ronglin Shijia, a well-known furniture brand, filed a complaint against the organizing committee and another exhibitor, Sen Furniture. The brand accused Sen Furniture of copying its "Kyocera" series design, which is known for its unique style and high-quality craftsmanship. Ronglin Shijia has already obtained a design patent for the "Kyocera" line, and they are seeking justice through legal channels.
The "Kyocera" series by Ronglin Shijia was launched several years ago and has since gained popularity in major cities across China, with Beijing being one of the top-selling markets. The product design patent for this series was approved a few years back. According to Feng Tao, a lawyer representing Ronglin Shijia, the "Grand View" series displayed by Sen Furniture at the exhibition appears to have at least three products that are suspected of plagiarism. However, the exhibition organizers have not yet officially accepted the infringement claim due to the lack of necessary documentation, such as proof of identity from the plaintiff.
Xu Wentao, a legal advisor for the Shenzhen Furniture Industry Association, emphasized that handling such disputes is a routine part of the exhibition process. As a neutral party, the association must follow proper procedures. If Ronglin Shijia provides the required documents, the rights protection team will formally review the case. In such situations, the team would immediately conduct a professional inspection at the Sen Furniture pavilion. If the allegations are confirmed, the infringing products would be removed, and Ronglin Shijia would receive fair treatment.
This incident highlights the growing importance of intellectual property protection in the furniture industry. As more brands strive for innovation, the risk of imitation also increases. Exhibitions like the Shenzhen Furniture Exhibition serve as both a platform for showcasing creativity and a battleground for legal disputes. It remains to be seen how this case will unfold, but it underscores the need for stronger enforcement of design rights and better communication between exhibitors and organizers.
