On December 15, two new wind power plants in Quzhou, Shanxi Province, officially started generating electricity and were connected to the grid. This milestone marked a significant step forward for renewable energy development in the region, pushing the total installed wind power capacity in Shanxi past the 2.025 million kilowatt threshold.
The recent approval by the Shanxi Economic and Information Technology Commission allowed Guodian Shanxi New Energy Development Co., Ltd. to connect its third phase of the Zuoyu Gaojiabao Wind Power Plant, featuring 33 units of 1.5 MW turbines, and the second phase of the Pinglu District Hutoushan Wind Power Plant, also consisting of 33 × 1.5 MW turbines. These projects represent substantial investments in clean energy infrastructure.
The Gaojiabao Phase III project had a total dynamic investment of 40.25 million yuan and was officially commissioned on December 15, 2012. Similarly, the Hutoushan Phase II project, with an investment of 39.524 million yuan, also began operations on the same date. Both projects were completed ahead of schedule and are now contributing to the growing share of wind power in Shanxi's energy mix.
With the addition of these two wind farms, the province’s wind power grid-connected capacity has reached 2.025 million kilowatts, highlighting the rapid progress being made in sustainable energy production. As part of its broader green development strategy, Shanxi continues to invest heavily in renewable energy sources, aiming to reduce carbon emissions and enhance energy security.
This achievement is not only a testament to the region’s commitment to environmental sustainability but also a reflection of the increasing role that wind energy is playing in China’s energy transition. With more projects expected to come online in the near future, the outlook for wind power in Shanxi looks very promising.
