The Nepal Hybrid Corn Comprehensive Technology Training Course officially started on the 17th in the Nigerian capital. Government officials, technical experts, and Nepalese trainees from China and Nigeria participated in the opening ceremony.

In April 2015, the governments of the two countries signed a letter of exchange, and China was responsible for assisting Nepal ’s agricultural technology cooperation projects, of which hybrid rice and corn varieties test and demonstration promotion and related technical training are important contents.

The training course was co-organized by Yuan Longping High-Tech Co., Ltd. (Longping Hi-Tech) and the Nigerian Ministry of Agriculture and Land Management Cooperation. The training course lasted for 46 days with 35 participants. It is understood that in addition to theoretical courses, experts from China will work with their Nepalese counterparts to take students to the corn plantation site for field research and lectures.

The Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Management and Cooperation (Executive Deputy Minister) Yu Bark said at the ceremony that the Nigerian government has been vigorously developing agriculture to provide food for a growing population, but the output of rice and corn has been stagnant. Hope this This training course can help Nepal learn Chinese technology, ease the imbalance between corn supply and demand, and avoid the food crisis.

According to Koirala, the project coordinator of the National Corn Research Center of Nigeria, corn is an important crop second to rice in Nigeria, accounting for about 20% of the country's total cereal output.

Nepal is an agricultural country, but 38 of the country ’s 75 counties have food shortages. Nepal imports food from countries such as India, with an average annual increase of about 15%.

It is understood that Longping Hi-tech has been implementing a three-year agricultural aid project in Nigeria since 2016, which has achieved results in the breeding and production of hybrid rice and corn. Zhou Dan, vice president of Longping Hi-Tech, said at the ceremony: "Through this training, local agricultural talents will be more widely cultivated, and the level of research and promotion of hybrid corn in Nepal will be further improved."
