December 16, 2013 – In a significant move to enhance its industrial automation offerings, Schneider Electric, a global leader in energy efficiency management, launched an upgraded version of its Altivar medium voltage drive series. The new model, the Altivar 1200 (ATV1200), expands the existing product lineup and brings advanced capabilities to the market.
With a capacity of up to 16,200 kVA, the ATV1200 is designed for applications such as fans, pumps, conveyors, and compressors. It helps optimize equipment performance, improve energy efficiency, and reduce operational costs, making it a valuable tool for industrial users aiming to achieve energy savings and emission reductions.
Motors are among the most widely used power-consuming devices across industries, accounting for a significant portion of electricity consumption. According to data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China’s motor capacity exceeds 1.7 billion kW, with annual power consumption reaching around 3 trillion kWh. Motor usage accounts for over 64% of total electricity use and 75% of industrial power demand. With low overall efficiency, there is a huge potential for energy savings, especially through variable frequency drives that enhance motor efficiency.

The new ATV1200 features a compact, rugged cabinet that saves space and simplifies installation. It integrates seamlessly with existing systems, reducing both time and cost. The drive uses proven low-voltage IGBT cell technology, allowing quick power module replacement without interrupting operations. Front-accessible maintenance makes it easy for operators to manage transformers and control units.
In terms of environmental protection, the ATV1200 delivers clean, sinusoidal waveforms that minimize mechanical stress and electromagnetic interference. Its multi-level output and integrated transformer help reduce switching surges, protecting equipment and saving energy. The inverter also operates efficiently, with up to 98.5% efficiency and no need for external cooling.
The ATV1200 is equipped with a range of standard features, including a safety interlock system, user-friendly touchscreen interface, internal lighting, and a UPS that ensures continuous operation for up to 30 minutes. These features ensure smooth motor operation and lower energy costs.
