Although the global market has long anticipated that Samsung would adopt a premium foreign metal casing for its flagship smartphones, it appears this expectation may not be fulfilled. According to a report from a Taiwanese supply chain metal parts manufacturer, the newly launched Samsung phone seems to be skipping the metal body altogether. The reason? The device was scheduled for a February 2014 release, but as of now, no mass production of metal casings has been confirmed across the industry. However, a separate report from South Korea suggests that Samsung might not have planned to use a full-metal body in the first place. According to local media, Samsung’s R&D team is currently experimenting with a "diamond-metal surface treatment technology." This innovative process involves wrapping the phone’s metal frame with a diamond-like material, significantly enhancing the durability and strength of the casing. Given that this technology requires a metal base, it's likely that the Galaxy S5 won't feature it. The process involves altering the atomic structure of carbon under high heat and pressure to form a diamond-like layer, which is then applied as a liquid or powder onto the metal casing. Samsung is exploring ways to integrate nanotechnology with diamond coatings to create an ultra-thin, nearly invisible protective layer on the phone’s body. This could mark a significant step forward in both design and durability for future devices.
