In August, China's power cable production reached 3,673,292 kilometers, marking a year-on-year increase of 3.56%. From January to August, the total output amounted to 26,502,199 kilometers, reflecting a steady growth of 6.66% compared to the same period last year. This upward trend highlights the continued momentum of development within China's power cable industry. Among various provinces, Jiangsu led in both monthly and cumulative output, with 647,672 km produced in August and a total of 4,788,291 km from January to August. Shanxi showed the most significant growth, with a year-on-year increase of 174.06% during the first eight months of the year. Most other regions also experienced positive growth, indicating a strong and healthy industry overall.
The power cable industry is the second-largest sector in China after the automotive industry, with product satisfaction rates and domestic market share exceeding 90%. As China's economy continues to grow rapidly, electricity demand has surged. Over the past five years, power generation has steadily increased, creating an urgent need for faster grid expansion. In recent years, the government has significantly boosted investment in power infrastructure. Urban and rural power grid facilities have been continuously upgraded, with distribution and transmission networks developing in tandem. This has led to a growing demand for power cables.
Additionally, the growth of the shipbuilding and urban rail transit industries has further driven the use of various types of cables, contributing to the stable development of the entire sector. According to China Electric Power Equipment Network, the power equipment industry has long been a key pillar of the national economy. With ongoing urbanization and industrialization, the demand for power cables in communication networks and grid construction is expected to rise, leading the industry into a phase of rapid growth in the coming years.
