In a recent event, the Wuhu City Health Supervision Center and Zhongda Electronics Luhu Co., Ltd. organized a public awareness week under the theme "Prevention and Treatment of Occupational Diseases for a Happy Life, 10 Million Homes." The initiative aimed to raise awareness among employers and workers about occupational disease prevention laws, related knowledge, and emergency response measures. During the event, experts highlighted that many people lack basic understanding of occupational diseases. Li Kechang from the Municipal Health Supervision Office explained that there are 10 officially recognized categories of occupational diseases, totaling 115 types. In Wuhu, pneumoconiosis remains one of the most common conditions. Symptoms include coughing, sputum production, chest pain, and shortness of breath. Some patients may also experience wheezing, hemoptysis, or other systemic symptoms. Occupational diseases are often found in industries such as mining, furniture manufacturing, and casting. Workers in these sectors are advised to wear dust masks and undergo regular health check-ups. Currently, there are 10 qualified inspection agencies across the city, including six hospitals in the urban area, five hospitals in the county, Red Cross Hospital, Peace Hospital, Renji Orthopaedics Hospital, and the CDC. Employees can choose the nearest facility for their needs. Li Kechang emphasized that both employers and employees share responsibility in preventing and managing occupational diseases. Employers must fulfill their legal obligations, while workers should be proactive in protecting themselves. Protective equipment provided by companies must be used consistently during work, rather than being discarded due to discomfort. At Zhongda Electronics, each workshop is equipped with electronic boards that monitor temperature, humidity, and noise levels in real time. Employees are provided with appropriate protective gear, such as safety shoes, glasses, earplugs, masks, gloves, and finger protectors. Employee Huang Xianjun shared, "These items are essential for daily tasks. For example, safety shoes help prevent foot injuries, provide non-slip support, and enhance overall safety." An emergency drill was also conducted during the event to improve workers' awareness of occupational disease prevention and emergency procedures. At around 10:30 AM, a chemical spill simulation took place in the solvent storage room. Two warehouse staff accidentally spilled chemicals, causing one manager to get solvent in his eyes. The second manager immediately reported the incident and helped the injured person to the emergency room. Upon arrival, the supervisor organized an evacuation and set up a perimeter. Meanwhile, the fire and ambulance teams arrived on-site, donned protective gear, and began handling the situation to avoid further harm. The ambulance team used acid-resistant socks to contain the spill, sealed the waste in hazardous bags, and transported it to a designated disposal area. Throughout the process, strict protocols were followed to ensure no contamination occurred. After the site was cleared, the supervisor verified the number of personnel and confirmed the drill's success.
